š” Did you know that actinomycetes are essential for plant health? These beneficial bacteria grow mycelium much like fungi and can boost nutrient availability for plants.š±š¬
Actinomycetes are a diverse group that includes pathogens but when organic material is properly composted we are able to select for beneficial actinomycetes which can withstand the higher composting temperatures. āØļø In fact the Actinomycetes are the ones responsible for a compostās āearthy aroma!
š These Actinomycetes break down complex organic materials, enriching the soil with plant available forms of nutrients like phosphorus and nitrogen. This promotes healthier and faster plant growth. They also produce natural antibiotics that protect plants from harmful pathogens, reducing the need for chemical pesticides. šæš”ļø
You can find these micro-gardeners in soil with a distinct earthy or musty odor. You might also notice a white, powdery coating on the soil surface or plant roots, indicative of actinomycetes colonizing the area.
At Nutrition Technologies, we track actinomycetes in our organic fertilisers Diptia® and Vitalis® and modify our composting process to encourage a balanced level of actinomycetes. Discover more about Diptia and Vitalis at our website
